As a person with a disability, I had to wonder about the recent celebration of the ADA at Gracie Mansion. I was there, along with several other self advocates of New York State.
Corporate executive received awards for hiring people with disabilities, but why not honor an employee with a disability? And if you're going to have corporate executives attend an event like this, it would be nice if they could speak with people with disabilities and talk with them about job opportunities. Advocacy groups were not recognized for the work they do to ensure the ADA is upheld.
